An engineer in computer sciences by education, Koen first experienced the energy and creative drive of a (then) startup while working for Enfocus (now an Esko company). The combination of music and technology being his main interest however, he decided to pursue his passion at Ghent University (IPEM / DSSP) where he worked for several years as a senior R&D engineer in the fields of computational music analysis and interactive multimedia. He received funding from IWT to work on a post-doc level project on applications of percussion-related music analysis, and founded SampleSumo at the end of 2007. Koen followed the management programmes "Technology Transfer" and "Innovation Management for SMEs" at Vlerick Leuven-Ghent Management School and is an early member of the VOKA networking organization BRYO. He was also one of the developers of Smartelectronix and was an advisor for Wikifonia.
